Session Guitarist Tim Pierce Home Studio

Session Guitarist Tim Pierce Home Studio

Session Guitarist Tim Pierce and his Home Studio Setup. I look back on this Home Studio Video and I’m amazed how much time has passed, but I am also grateful for what I’ve been able to do on YouTube in the last year and a half. This was the first day I ever met Marty Schwartz. I had known Brett Papa and Brett convinced Marty to make the drive up here and do a Home Studio Video for YouTube. Marty and Brett were heroes of mine on YouTube and the fact that I made friends with them was sort of a dream come true. They have both helped me a lot. My Home Studio is a ready to go at a moments notice. It’s as simple as starting a car. When someone shows up to record we can easily be working within 5 to 10 minutes. I’m fortunate to have people like Ross Hogarth, Chris Lord-Algae, Glen Ballard, Jack Joseph Puig, Humberto Gatica and many other studio professionals come and record at my Home Studio. A lot of the gear is interchangeable these days. It seems like pedal and amp and guitar makers are all at such a high level at this point, that you can use a new Strat or a custom boutique Strat, a Boss or Strymon effect pedal or an old Bassman or a new Paul Reed Smith amp. All these things sound great whether they be vintage or modern. The Home Studio changes all the time and best thing to do is look at my newest videos to see what is currently on deck. I’m really looking forward to learning the Kemper profiler this year, and as always, my signature overdrive and boost pedal by J. Rockett Audio, is always patched in. I was using the…

Studio Guitar Recording with Gibson Les Paul Black Beauty Guitar - Tim Pierce Guitar

Black Beauty Gibson Les Paul Studio Guitar Recording

Studio Guitar Recording with a Les Paul Black Beauty. Here’s a song I did, with a Black Beauty vintage guitar that I got a year ago. The guitar is a Gibson Black Beauty Les Paul from 1969. This guitar sounds amazing but it is been devalued extensively with a kind of sloppy refret and a fixed broken neck. John Shanks owned the guitar and he was selling it. At the time I was working on X factor playing guitar for John (which is a privilege in itself), and because the guitar at these issues I was able to get it at a good price. As usual I used my divided by 13 RSA 23 and my Custom Audio Electronics Boost Pedal, and also as usual I was printing a little delay after the mic-pre through an Eventide Eclipse. I also play bass on the track just because there wasn’t a bass player around at the time. The session is typical of some of the kinds of parts I create when I’m doing sessions for people. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did! Subscribe to Tim’s newsletter and get access to a private collection of videos and more. Brian Reeves Banjo Recording Session 2 Tim Pierce Guitar

Banjo Acoustic Electric Guitar Session Recording

Banjo, Electric Guitar and Acoustic Guitar are the elements I added on this song. Producer Brian Reeves brought over a country song. Brian Reeves is a Producer and Engineer who has worked with people like Donna Summer, Stanley Clarke, Selena Gomez, Miley Cyrus and many more. Some of you guys might not know but a Gango is simply a guitar neck with six strings on a Banjo body. I was pleased with the way the Banjo (Gango) sounds in the chorus, and in general with the way the acoustics electrics and Gango all added up together. In the chorus I do a series of double stop sixth interval based phrases. Those of you who pay attention to country probably realize, along with me, that those style of runs are not really in vogue right now, but this song was so sweet I just kind of spontaneously went there. I can’t help but turn into Steve Cropper a bit when I play over something like this!!! In other words I feel it just as much as Motown and Muscle Shoals as it is country. Thanks again for subscribing and all of you who posted comments in the pedal giveaway. I thank you for your generosity and for taking the time to write something! Melodic Blues Soloing Papastache Tim Pierce Guitar Lesson

Melodic Blues Soloing Guitar Lesson

Melodic Blues Soloing Guitar Lesson is a free online guitar lesson where I show how to play various melodic guitar ideas. Brett Papa did some filming the other day at my studio and made this Melodic Blues Soloing video. First he filmed a great song that Warren Huart produced and was written by Scott James. Warren is awesome and he comes over a lot to do guitar overdubs at my studio. After that I found a another nice track on my hard drive and just played melodically over the whole thing. On the first song I am careful to work around the vocal and it is more of a jazz blues sort of thing. The second song is just fun in the style that is probably the closest to my heart, which is a clean-ish Sustained Sound and Melody based Soloing. Hope you enjoy these videos as much as we enjoy making them !!! Mauricio Guerrero Session Guitar Recording Tim Pierce

Mauricio Guerrero Recording Session

Mauricio Guerrero and I both share a history of work with Phil Collins. Mauricio Guerrero brought over an artist he was producing named Barbara Munoz. The production was pretty amazing with real horns and real strings. The arranger is another friend of mine, Jamie Ciero. His writing for the strings and horns was brilliant. I used a newer Gibson Les Paul that I just purchased. It’s actually not a custom shop or anything but it might be my favorite Les Paul!! As usual I’m using a Divided by 13 and one of my favorite delay pedals, the Line 6 Echo Park. This was a wild track just meant to see what would happen. You can hear the more disciplined guitar parts in the background while I’m playing over the song. Enjoy! 🙂 Subscribe to Tim’s newsletter and get access to a private collection of videos and more. Graham Ward Recording Session

Graham Ward Recording Session

This video was done over Skype with my friend, Graham Ward, in South Africa. I’ve always worked a lot with the producer and drummer named Graham Ward. He lived here in LA for a long long time,  and he would come to my studio frequently with the songs we would do overdubs. Now lives near Cape Town in South Africa, so we do our sessions over Skype now. He sends me the files I create a ProTools session and then we agree on a time. It’s in the morning for me and evening for him and I simply use my laptop. With a good Internet connection, he can hear parts and sounds well enough simply through my laptop microphone to be able to produce the session. Also since we have a video of each other we can laugh and tell jokes!! 🙂 The whole thing works surprisingly well!!! Graham Ward Credits: Sophie B. Eric Berdon Recording Session

Eric Berdon Recording Session

I do a lot of guitar sessions for Ken Caillat and Eric Berdon, they bring some of the highest quality songs and artists. This song was sung beautifully by a great new artist named Shaena Stabler. Ken produced ‘Rumors‘ by Fleetwood Mac and many other subsequent Fleetwood Mac records, and then he had a second huge success with his daughter Colbie Caillat. I’ve gotten to play on several of Colbie’s records – she has an amazing voice. Eric Berdon is Ken’s partner and he’s a very talented young songwriter, singer and guitarist. I used my Tom Anderson Raven a lot, Divided by 13 Amp and my Eventide Eclipse Delays. I also of course use the Line6 Echo Park which is one of my favorite delay pedals. Ken Caillet’s credits include: Stevie Nicks, Michael Jackson, Dishwalla, Ministry, Motörhead, London Symphony Orchestra, Curtis Mayfield, REO Speedwagon, Bob Marley & the Wailers, Lynyrd Skynyrd and many more.
