Melodic Blues Soloing Papastache Tim Pierce Guitar Lesson

Melodic Blues Soloing Guitar Lesson

Melodic Blues Soloing Guitar Lesson is a free online guitar lesson where I show how to play various melodic guitar ideas. Brett Papa did some filming the other day at my studio and made this Melodic Blues Soloing video. First he filmed a great song that Warren Huart produced and was written by Scott James. Warren is awesome and he comes over a lot to do guitar overdubs at my studio. After that I found a another nice track on my hard drive and just played melodically over the whole thing. On the first song I am careful to work around the vocal and it is more of a jazz blues sort of thing. The second song is just fun in the style that is probably the closest to my heart, which is a clean-ish Sustained Sound and Melody based Soloing. Hope you enjoy these videos as much as we enjoy making them !!! Dan Chase Recording Session with Tim Pierce

Dan Chase Recording Session

This session with Dan Chase reminded me of the music that was everywhere when I first moved to LA. Bands like The Knack and The Motels were everywhere doing music that I guess was called New Wave. I’ve worked with Dan Chase for a very long time. He does lots of records all the time for major artists. People like Sheryl Crow, Dave Matthews, Pink, No Doubt, Katy Perry, Celine Dion, Avril Lavigne, Goo Goo Dolls, Bon Jovi and many more. Check www.allmusic.com for a list of his credits. He brought over an awesome singer-songwriter named Adrienne Spiridellis, and we did tons of parts at a lightning fast pace. Dan is amazingly fast at taking guitar parts and inserting them wherever he needs. I mostly use my Tom Anderson Raven for this session, but I started out with a Don Grosh strat that I love that I’ve had for a very long time. Tim Pierce With Greg Townley and Lesedi Lofi.

Greg Townley Session

Tim recently did a session with Greg Townley and an amazing new upcoming talent with a unique story. One night, Greg Townley was coming out of his studio in Hollywood and he heard an artist singing in the street. It turned out to be Lesedi Lo-Fi. He said he cannot recall hearing such a magnificent voice and he went over to introduce himself after listening for a while. They started chatting and Greg gave Lesedi his card and told him to give him a call. After 2 days Lesedi called Greg and sent him an article about him being homeless since the age of 16 and making his living performing in the streets of Hollywood. They had lunch and Greg found Lesedi to be gracious and humble as well as talented. The initial plan was to record 4 songs to help him out and Greg asked how many songs he had, Lesedi replied dozens and dozens. They went into the studio to hear 10 of his  songs to pick 4 for an EP. “It was hard to explain the electricity at that first session but everyone there wanted to do all 10”, said Greg. They started a Kickstarter campaign and were able to raise $5000. With that money they got Lesedi off the street as well as record all 10 songs. “There is a community feeling around this project”, says Greg. Many people have gracefully participated and helped in many ways – “This is about working together to help an amazing young artist realize their music”. Besides Tim recording on the album other collaborators include: Fritz Lewak (Drummer w. Jackson Browne), Kevin McCormick (Crosby, Stills and Nash), Bernie Larson (Guitar w. Melissa Etheridge, Dave Lindley), Sebastian Morton (Loops & Electronics), Kyle Biane (Recording Engineer), Sterling Andrews (Photographer). For more information you can find Greg Townley @…

Session Guitar Lesson 3 with Tim Pierce

Session Guitar Recording Lesson 3

Session Guitar Lesson 3 with Taylor Mesple. Session Guitar Lesson 3 is a song with a great artist named Taylor Mesple. Taylor plays wicked keyboards and great guitar. He sings great and is an excellent songwriter. He and his family also own Wildwood Guitars in Louisville, Colorado. This very friendly music store is an amazing source for instruments and instrument repair. Our track features Abe Laboriel and Mel Brown on drums and bass. They helped create a very inspired foundation! In this Session Guitar video I am playing the Wildwood Spec Les Paul among others. There are many different rhythm parts which also include Whammy sections and slide guitar. I will demonstrate the use of backward guitar with Pro Tools and play a part with an Epiphone Wilshire through a Ventilator Leslie pedal. The unique challenge with this track, was because Abe and Mel were playing so ferociously and sort of on the busy side, it limited me to a simpler approach. What I do is always about simplicity anyway, so I’m used to these kinds of challenges. I chose a number of guitars, and did pretty simple parts, that allowed for different colors and flavors that came from the sound pallet rather than from a lot of notes. Abe Laboriel Jr. and Mel Brown both played very active drum and bass parts, respectively. The high activity in the rhythm section compelled me to keep my approach simple. This is the last of three videos for the online magazine Pure Guitar. Pure Guitar was a venture created by the original Guitar Player Magazine staff, Incl. Jas Obrecht  and Tom Wheeler. Those were the names that I saw in every guitar player magazine growing up dreaming about being a professional guitar player, so to work with them was kind of a…
