Studio Guitar Recording with a Les Paul Black Beauty. Here’s a song I did, with a Black Beauty vintage guitar that I got a year ago. The guitar is a Gibson Black Beauty Les Paul from 1969. This guitar sounds amazing but it is been devalued extensively with a kind of sloppy refret and a fixed broken neck. John Shanks owned the guitar and he was selling it. At the time I was working on X factor playing guitar for John (which is a privilege in itself), and because the guitar at these issues I was able to get […]
This Free Online Guitar Lesson is La Grange with ZZ Top. ZZ Top and Billy Gibbons were huge influences on me. I discovered them when “Rio Grande Mud” came out and I was just starting to play guitar in 1970. I got to see them support that record at a concert in Albuquerque New Mexico. It was just the band and their Marshall stacks, which, if I remember correctly were renamed “Rio Grande” amps, and outfitted with steer horns. Those of you who remember ‘Tres Hombres‘ – (the album with the song “La Grange” on it), will remember the […]
Mauricio Guerrero and I both share a history of work with Phil Collins. Mauricio Guerrero brought over an artist he was producing named Barbara Munoz. The production was pretty amazing with real horns and real strings. The arranger is another friend of mine, Jamie Ciero. His writing for the strings and horns was brilliant. I used a newer Gibson Les Paul that I just purchased. It’s actually not a custom shop or anything but it might be my favorite Les Paul!! As usual I’m using a Divided by 13 and one of my favorite delay pedals, the Line 6 Echo […]
Heartbreaker was always one of my favorite Led Zeppelin songs, not only because of the guitar but also the amazing bass part. I’m sure it’s well documented somewhere but to me it sounds like a Rickenbacker bass through some sort of Leslie on fast speed or some sort of tremolo. In the verse the guitar just kind hangs out and lets the bass carry it. In this free online guitar lesson I teach you how to play the full Heartbreaker song. In the solo at the beginning of the video I made up a couple of Jimmy Page style […]
Here’s a solo guitar on a song for a current Artist – this is in many ways my favorite kind of playing. I have the Les Paul cranked up just enough for sustain but clean enough so you can hear all the notes. Reminds me of the Guitar Solos that were played on one of my favorite records – Deja Vu by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, and also the lyrical playing of Bill Dillon on Sarah Mclachlan’s records. Here’s a guitar solo I did for Jamie Ciero. I used my Les Paul through channel 3 of the Diesel. I think it was the neck pick up. We found a great short room sound on the Eventide eclipse. I also used the wah pedal moving very slowly. Subscribe to Tim’s newsletter and get access to a private collection of videos and more.
