Blues Guitar Lesson Soloing Over Chords 2

Here’s another free online blues guitar lesson where I teach you how to play blues guitar over a chord progression.

I did this video in collaboration with Brett from This progression is in the key of Bmi and is a standard minor blues progression. I talk about how to hit specific notes over the Bmi, Emi and F#mi, using minor pentatonic scale, blues scale, and various techniques such as Hammer On/Pull Off’s, bending and more. This is an intermediate level blues guitar lesson to play blues and solo. Enjoy and feel free to leave any comments below!
I also have more lessons on my Lessons Playlist: You can find more videos as well on Brett’s YouTube channel at

Subscribe to Tim’s newsletter and get access to a private collection of videos and more.

There are lots of lessons on soloing, a beginner strumming video, at a studio tour where you can explore the secrets of getting great sounds!

Tim this lil tune Bret put together is, I feel this one in my bones, and took to it right away. I have probably played/jammed to it 20 X so far.
I have also forced myself to do the note 4 note thing. The subtle parts are meant to be expressed. The second time you play through is very tasty, I wish it was broken down. No problem really. I figure your wanting us to play our and express our selves,
Is there a chance you can take this to the next level? Solos # 2 or sumthin?
    Thanks for sharing

Is the backing track you are using in this lesson available somewhere? I can really relate to this sound and very much appreciate what you are doing. Not just in this but all of your videos.

Hi Brian. I use Elixir Strings. My hands create a lot of moisture and I ruin regular strings within minutes, so the coated Elixirs have been a life saver. Thanks! 🙂

Buddy Rich had a mastery of his instrument that amazed fellow drummers. You Tim can mesmerize guitarists smiling all the time. You are a master!!

Tim the backing track for that blues solo is no longer available on you tube it’s been replaced by a file called highway 1. Is there anywhere else I can download it? Thanks.
